A Raspberry Pi Cloud

The University of Glasgow Raspberry Pi Cloud project is a teaching and research project centred around the construction of a “scale-model” of a warehouse-sized computer using Raspberry Pi devices. The project is based in the School of Computing Science and is led by SICSA Research Fellows Dr David R. White and Dr Posco Tso.

The project is kindly supported by the Chancellor’s Fund.

The project continues to progress. The physical build is complete, and one of our students has spent months building a nice RESTful API to monitor and control the PiCloud through a web interface.

We’ve also been using LXC virtualisation and build a software stack on top of that. Posco’s been experimenting with Hadoop and Software Defined Networking (SDN).

There’s lots going on with the project, and we have more students working on the project this summer and in the next academic year.

We welcome suggestions of research directions, improved design decisions and are open to collaborations. Please do get in touch if you’re interested in what we’re doing!
